AI search visibility begins with the same practical question as a good website: can someone clearly understand what your business does, where it operates and why the information is credible? Useful pages, accessible content and real evidence provide a stronger foundation than attempts to manipulate citations.

Start with a clear business identity

Use a consistent business name, contact information and description across your website and relevant business profiles. Explain each service in direct language. A buyer should be able to distinguish ongoing IT support from an infrastructure project, or website design from custom software.

Answer the questions behind an enquiry

A useful service page explains the problem it addresses, the work that may be included, the information needed to prepare a proposal and what happens at handover. Answer pricing questions by explaining the factors that change the scope. Explain dependencies rather than making promises that cannot be supported.

  • What is this service and who is it for?
  • What deliverables should we agree?
  • Which existing systems or content can be retained?
  • What affects timing and cost?
  • How will we check that the work is complete?

Make the content accessible

Keep essential information in readable HTML. Use descriptive headings and links, meaningful image descriptions and mobile layouts that preserve the content. Check indexing controls, canonical URLs and the sitemap. A crawler permission alone does not ensure that a page will be indexed, cited or recommended.

Support statements with evidence

Publish authorised examples of completed work with accurate descriptions of the business requirement and your contribution. Use measured results only when you can explain how they were obtained. Guides should identify their sources where technical or changing facts matter, and be reviewed when the underlying guidance changes.

Understand crawler permissions

OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot as its search crawler and GPTBot as a crawler for potential model training. The settings are independent: allowing a search crawler does not require allowing a training crawler. Review these choices separately and check that hosting security rules do not unintentionally block the access you intend to allow.

Avoid special-markup shortcuts

Google’s guidance does not require special schema markup or a new AI text file for generative search visibility. Structured data can describe accurate business and page information, but it should match what visitors can see. Helpful FAQs are useful because they answer buying questions, not because they guarantee enhanced search presentation.

Measure useful outcomes

Review relevant search queries, pages attracting qualified visitors and completed enquiries where measurement is available. Distinguish a contact-button click from an enquiry that was actually sent. AI responses vary, so an occasional mention is not a dependable measure of business impact.
